About
Gridville is my playful experiment in city-building—and a fun excuse to dive deep into mastering Zig Lang and the Raylib graphics library.
The world of Gridville is alive and closely connected to its neighboring cities, the state, and the global community we all share. When oil or soy prices rise on the global market, it actually matters here! If you’re developing a border town with a booming influx of immigrants, you’ll feel the impact. Got a massive military base in your city? That changes everything—from the types of businesses drawn to your streets, to the dynamics of crime and opportunity. Every decision you make echoes through your city and beyond. Let’s see what kind of world you can build!
Most city-building games can feel like you’re simply decorating an empty canvas: laying out streets, designating zones, and carefully separating industry from residential areas. Gridville takes a different approach, offering a resource-driven, real-time environment where the city evolves on its own terms. Inspired by real-life Eastern European cities, Gridville doesn’t care about your carefully marked zones—residents might build houses or dump trash wherever they want. Industry can pop up randomly and grow to dominate your city, sometimes with unexpected consequences. Construction companies may go bankrupt, abandon projects, or do shoddy work, leading to roads and bridges that deteriorate much faster. The result is a more unpredictable and realistic city-building experience, where chaos and opportunity go hand in hand.
That’s the vision, anyway. Time will tell if it all comes together into a playable game!
